Temporary Solutions: Why Fashion Retail sale Free
Recent highlights:
1. The Drapers redundancies tracker shows job cuts in fashion retail since the start of the pandemic reached 45,240 as of 3 September, following the latest announcements from Gap, which will close all of its UK stores on 30 September, affecting around 1,000 retail staff; John Lewis, which is cutting 1,000 staff as part of a store management shake-up; and Tesco-owned F&F, whose footwear and accessories team is in consultation as it scraps the category for spring/summer 22 onwards.
2. As the furlough scheme comes to an end, temporary roles may help fill the gaps in retail, but workers and professional bodies are asking companies to value these staff properly – both as the right thing to do, and to help retain talent in the future
